Our word of the day was “anatomy.” Jasper chose to learn more in depth about the Digestive System. We looked at some of the key parts: the esophagus, stomach, liver, and intestines. Jasper drew the digestive system on a t-shirt with fabric markers. Check it out!

Some of you have noticed that Jasper is wearing a medical bracelet in his videos. He has Type 1 Diabetes. We are going to post information about Diabetes here, in an effort to help other diabetics out, educate non-diabetics, and to show you just how adventurous Jasper’s life is.
We just figured out something that determines if Jasper is low, high or perfect on blood sugar:
I ask him what 4 + 5 is.
Low response: Umm… 3?
High response: I don’t want to do math right now! Stop asking me questions!!!
Perfect: 9!
It’s funny; I don’t even have to change the math question. Works every time!
It certainly helps to have an idea of where he’s at BEFORE he pulls out the lancets and monitor. Many a test strip has been dropped on the floor because he was too low or high to deal with it.

Jasper searched for different kinds of shells on the beach of the Sea of Cortez. Then he thought of an adjective for each shell. An adjective is a describing word. See all the shells Jasper collected on the main page!
I found a spider! It was super scary. It ate an ant. It was black and white. It had eight legs. It crawls fast. I buried it because it was scary. The end.
We are learning about poetry with a focus on rhyming and alliteration. This is the poem Jasper made about Mexico:
Mexico in a Minute (or more)
I like to play at the beach
I like to go run and screech
I like to go on the quad
I’ll drive by you and I’ll nod
The song I like to practice
Is sitting on a cactus
I wish I could drive my go-cart
But oh, shucks, it won’t start
I like to be on top of the bus
When my parents are causing a fuss
At the end of the day I go in my tent
Boy, you wouldn’t believe how much I pay in rent
I was shocked to find Jasper set up with a storefront this morning. He explained that he was turning his pet snails into assets. Pets are liabilities, because they take money out of your pocket. If you sell your pets, they become an asset. I don’t recommend selling your pets unless your parents approve!
This week we’re learning about cashflow, finances, money. We did a field trip to a toy store where we talked about impulse buying. Jasper made a purchase that was very impressive, by following the criteria that we came up with BEFORE entering the store. His criteria was 1) it had to cost less than 6 dollars, 2) it had to be small, 3) it had to be a quiet toy, 4) it had to be something he could play with inside of the bus or outside. It was very difficult finding just the right toy. Together, we judged each toy to see if it fit the criteria. Something seemed to be missing in each toy. Jasper was starting to get disappointed, but he decided to take one last look around the store. He returned to me excited, holding a Lego kit in his hand. It was 4.99, very small, quiet, and could be played with inside or outside the bus. Success!!
We learned about the word “asset” on tuesday. an asset is something that puts money in your pocket. On wednesday we talked about “liabilities.” A liability is something that TAKES money out of your pocket.
We played the game “Cashflow for Kids” to review our new words.
